World Series Beats Sunday Night Football

Baseball got a rare ratings win over football on Sunday, when more people watched Game 5 of the World Series between the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians than watched the night's NFL game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles.

There were 23.6 million viewers tuned in to watch the Cubs, who haven't won a World Series since 1908, beat the Indians, who haven't won since 1948, to stay alive and move forward to Game 6.

Not only did it beat the NFL game, which had only 18 million people watching, it was the highest viewership for a World Series Game 5 since 1997.

It was also the second time a championship baseball game has bested a NFL contest, after Game 4 of the St. Louis Cardinals-Texas Rangers World Series in October 2011 had higher ratings than that night's Indianapolis Colts-New Orleans Saints game.
