Terre Haute Radio: Fourth Suspect Named In Matt Luecking Murder

Matt Luecking
Terre Haute police have arrested three people and issued a warrant for a fourth in connection with the beating death of well-known WFNB 92.7 FM  radio personality Matt Luecking, whose body was found in his east-side apartment Monday.

According to tribster.com, In custody are John Edward Collins, 24, of Terre Haute; his girlfriend, Kathleen Featherstone, 25, also of Terre Haute; and their friend, Benjamin Selig, 28, of Rockville.

The warrant was issued for 47-year-old Donald Featherstone, who was hospitalized in Illinois on Tuesday evening, police said.

Upon his release, he will be transported to a local jail for extradition to Vigo County, authorities said. Based on his condition, detectives were reportedly unable to speak with him.

The warrant is for charges of murder, robbery and burglary, police said.

Both Collins and Kathleen Featherstone face preliminary charges of murder, burglary resulting in serious bodily injury, and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. Collins also faces a charge of auto theft.

They are scheduled to be arraigned on formal charges Friday.

Officers found Luecking, 44, dead in his bedroom Monday. He'd sustained massive blunt-force trauma to the head.

Police were tipped Monday to the location of two male suspects when they reportedly tried to use Luecking's bank card and ID at a nearby Walmart.

A loss-prevention officer at the store gave police a license plate number that led officers to Selig's home in Rockville, where police said they saw Collins and Selig loading belongings into Luecking's car.

Radio was a part-time gig for Luecking.  He juggled air shifts with a day job in the loan department at Terre Haute Savings Bank and bookings for his DJ business, Showtime Music.

B92.7 FM midday personality Kyle West’s voice wavered as he spoke about Luecking on-air. He said he’d worked with him since 2001.

“He truly loved entertaining, putting smiles on people’s faces and raising money for good causes,” West said.

Jamie Dawson, an afternoon disc jockey on B92.7 FM worked with Luecking for about 20 years.

“Matt would have taken a few minutes out of his day to help anybody if he thought he could,” Dawson said.

News of Matt’s death spread quickly across the radio industry. Personalities at his former stations, including WCBH 104.3 FM The Party and WZPL 99.5 FM in Indianapolis, shared the news on their Facebook pages.
