S-A Radio: Iconic Bruce Hathaway On The Mend

Best wishes to San Antonio broadcast icon Bruce Hathaway,  who rocked local radio listeners' worlds for four decades,  is in the hospital recovering from back surgery.

According to mysanantonio.com, many radio and TV vets, along with other media, turned to Facebook to pledge love, support and prayers for Hathaway -- a top-40 radio original who dates back to the rock heyday of the 1960s.

Easily recognizable because of his towering height and trim mustache-less beard, Hathaway, 78, became a household name on then-music station KTSA 550 AM when he started there in the '60s.

He remained on the station in the '70s and part of the '80s before moving to Magic 105 and finally on to KONO.

In 2014, Hathaway  was  honored by the South Texas Pop Culture Center for his role in San Antonio's golden age of rock 'n'  roll radio.

Blanquita Cullum -- his morning partner on KTSA during the 1980s and still a close friend of Hathaway -- said she wanted to reach out to his many fans so they could "love on him" as well.
