R.I.P.: San Antonio Radio Mourns Loss Of Johnny Shannon

Johnny Shannon
Much of San Antonio’s radio community is heartbroken over the death of a man deemed a legend in local broadcasting.

Johnny Shannon – or Johnny “Solid Gold” Shannon as he was known during his early radio career — died of liver cancer early Monday morning.

He was 70, according to mysanantonio.com.

Shannon could be heard on the San Antonio airwaves off and on for 45 years.

Most recently, he worked at KTSA as a news reporter. He toiled there for the past 10 years,  his son said, right up until his death.

Just a couple of months before, Shannon was inducted into the San Antonio Radio Hall of Fame. Five years earlier, he was honored as a member of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
