According to the station, someone purporting to be representating the activist group 'Anonymous' Sunday evening hacked their on-air programming and broadcast a message for about 30-minutes. The station was then returned to its regular music programming.
“Anonymous” has claimed reponsiblity for hacking websites around the world to express their views and messages.
Doug Kirkman, with WXXR spoke with News10-TV. Kirkman stated, “We are unaware of where the broadcast origin is. It did actually appear to be coming underneath our actual signal. When we looked at our computers and everything at the broadcast station, everything appeared normal though it was quite obviously not normal.”
The radio station is investigating this hacking through the night.
