Twin Cities Radio: Get Well Wishes For KTWN's Thorn Skroch

KTWN Go 96.3 FM radio listeners might have noticed the absence of one of the Twin Cities station's DJs, Thorn Skroch. Skroch hasn't been on air recently due to serious medical issues including a stroke and other health concerns, according to twincities.com.

His family said the longtime local DJ/music director had "surgery to repair intestinal issues resulting from surgery earlier (last) week." In an entry on CaringBridge.com from Thursday morning, it says Skroch had a stable night and a brain CT scan showed "no swelling or worsening of the stroke he had early Tuesday morning."

In the same entry written by Skroch's wife, Shelly Gilbertson, she said, "About 3:00 this morning I asked him if he could squeeze my hand and received a bone-crunching grip in response -- same reaction when I told him that the Timberwolves had finally received the #1 draft pick."

She asked people to keep him in their "thoughts and prayers."

Go 96.3 management confirms Skroch is dealing with "health issues," but declined to share specifics, referring people to his CaringBridge page.

Thorn joined Go 96.3 FM, the Pohlad family-owned station that also airs Minnesota Twins games, in February shortly after the station's relaunch. His history in local radio is lengthy. Skroch was a music director at Cities 97, he was 89.3 the Current's first music director and he was a DJ on the now defunct FM stations Rev 105 and Zone 105. He was also the first program director for the University of Minnesota's Radio K.
