Indy Radio: Laura Steele Exits WFBQ

Laura Steele
Prominent Indianapolis radio personality Laura Steele has exited WFBQ 94.7 FM.

The Indy Star reports the midday DJ at the classic rock station decided "to realign some of her career objectives" and will "resign her position," iHeart Media market president Rick Green wrote Monday in an email to staff members.

Steele, a Pike High School alum and 1990 graduate of Columbia College Chicago, didn't elaborate on her plans.

"I am excited about my next adventure," said Steele, who worked at Q95 for 15 years. "Thanks to the listeners who rocked with me along the way. It's been a great run."

In 2004, Steele became the first woman to join the Indianapolis Motor Speedway public address team.

Pop station WZPL 99.5 FM provided Steele's first job in Indianapolis radio, and she raised her profile as a classic rock expert at WNAP 93.1 FM, beginning in 1999, and then at Q95, beginning in 2000.

As a voice-track DJ, Steele has been heard on radio stations in Dallas, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, San Antonio, Nashville, Tenn., Charlotte, N.C., San Jose, Calif., and Syracuse, N.Y.
