Boston Radio: WRKO To Move Jeff Kuhner Into Rush Time Slot

Entercom/Boston is planning to move current morning show host Jeff Kuhner into the Noon-3pm slot when its WRKO 680 AM stops airing Rush Limbaugh sometime during the summer.

Rush Limbaugh
WRKO will launch a new morning show next month.

Entercom brought Limbaugh’s syndicated show back in August 2012 after it had been off the station for two-and-a-half years. During that time, Limbaugh aired on then-Clear Channel's WXKS 1200 AM.

Ratings never developed for the station and it eventually dropped Talk 1200 content for a Business format.

Rush had previously been heard on WRKO until 2010.

Kuhner has been at WRKO since January 2012 and on mornings since October 2012. Previously,

Kuhner hosted a show WTNT 570 AM  in Washington, DC.  The show was canceled after WTNT became a sports station in September 2010.

Meanwhile, market watchers on speculating on the next outlet for Rush Limbaugh.  Currently, there are two other Talk stations in the Boston Market.  They are WCAP 980 AM in Lowell, MA, which is located northwest of city proper.  The other talker is WMEX 1510 AM.  The 50 Kw-Day station has a signal-challenged coverae area.   There hasn't been a Talk format on FM, since GreaterMedia dropped Talk on 96.9 FM to launch Urban WBQT in early 2013.

  1. That will be the end of Kuhner. Anyone with any common sense will follow Rush to any station that is smart enough to pick up his show. This move will also lower Carr's ratings. The Rush audience was there for Howie, Now will be gone. RKO idiots strike out again.

    1. Have to agree. It's fashionable, even in some conservative circles, to trash Rush -- but the guy is flatly a genius, both analytically and as an entertainer. I can't imagine, at least as far as ratings go, this is going to be a good move for RKO which, indeed, seems to be slowly imploding.

    2. If WABC were to bring Jeff to NYC,he'd have Limbaugh back on the course within 6 months.I've been listening online since Kuhner was in Washington.I can only imagine the reaction of the NY politicians when Jeff got after them.he'd be bigger than Bob Grant.

  2. I think Jeff kuhner should be placed in the 3 to 7 pm slot. It would be a welcome change to hear a talk show in this slot where the host has an inkling of intelligence In his vocabulary as well as speech patterns. Lets face it Howie sounds like a dumb blue collar worker from the 1970's . Just compare the caliber of Howie's callers with that of Jeff Kuhner's......NO CONTEST!

    1. I think part of Howie's appeal is his blue collar vibe, coupled with his obvious insightfulness and humor. If you actually listen to what he says, he's a pretty smart guy (he's definitely an exceptionally talented writer). True, his radio style is a little unpolished (?) -- but I think it works. One thing about Howie is he clearly enjoys his callers; you can hear it in his interactions with them -- something not every radio talker makes evident. I have to say, his former, ongoing feud with RKO -- while he was still employed with them -- followed by his weird and mysterious departure during election week of 2014, followed then by his return to RKO four or five months later, is one of the truly bizarre episodes of talk radio I've ever been privy to.

    2. I agree. Howie is one of the only places to find conservative radio driving home but Kuhner is much better. I miss him in the morning. VB and Kerrigan are absolutely awful

  4. I like Jeff Kuhner is the morning slot. I listed on my way to work and it's great. Howie is often very rude so I don't follow him.

  5. Howie Carr Is Great - Khuner Is a Emotional Wreck Like Glen Beck - People Will Get Sick Of Khuner - I Liked Him At First But I Got Sick Of Him - Now His Wife Has a Radio Show - She Is Horrible - They Both Get The Same Callers - Very Boring Both Of Them - Howie Will Still Be The Star In Boston And Blabermouth Khuner Will Be Long Gone - Maybe Glen Beck Will Hire Him - Khuner Is Such a Idiot He Claims The Trump Campaign Listen To His Show And Take Advise From Him - With All The National Shows Does The Idiot Khuner Think Trump Really Listens To His Little Rinky Dink Show - LOL

  6. I only wish WRKO would put Kuhner back in the morning slot or replace Howie in the evening. VB and Kerrigan are the worst. Even that weasel Tom Finneran with Todd was better...slightly

  7. Agree with your statement on Howie, He is great. I liked Khuener when he first appeared, now I go to 1260 instead of listening to Khuener. The last thing Trump and his team would do is listen to Khuener, he is starting to sound totally unhinged.
