Middletown NY Radio: Listeners Rally for Mark West

Listeners determined to keep embattled WALL 1340 AM radio host Mark West and his local oldies show on the air have bombarded the station's owner with letters, emails and petitions as West waits to learn his fate, according to the recordonlin.com.

Back in January, when West’s troubles started, the station's owner, media giant Townsquare Media, gave him until the end of March.

But no decision has come yet from Townsquare.

West, a 35-year radio veteran, leases weekday mornings - 6-10 a.m. - from Townsquare for his oldies and talk show at the 1340-AM frequency. He sells his own airtime and produces his own ads.
He’s been on WALL-AM for the past three and a half years.

On Jan. 5, Townsquare switched the station’s format from oldies to regional Mexican for 20 hours of its broadcast day.

Previously, Townsquare filled those hours with an oldies feed, so the formats matched.

In January, Townsquare’s regional market president for the Hudson Valley region, Jason Finkelberg, said the company would make a decision about West’s future by the end of the first quarter.
West said he’s exploring other options as the wait drags on.

Meanwhile, Middletown-area supporters have collected about 2,000 signatures on petitions they’ve forwarded to Townsquare Media.
