Cox Media Reports 20M Visits To "America's News Feed"

Rare.us was the fastest growing major media site in the United States in August with nearly 20 million visitors, 40 times more than the same period a year ago. This unrivaled growth is the result of leveraging social media to discover and distribute the buzzworthy and uplifting content Americans will share with their networks.

“While we have been below the radar screen with respect to traditional media, millions of people have found us because Rare.us publishes stories Americans want to read and share,” Rare.us Publisher Leon Levitt explained. “That’s why we call ourselves America’s News Feed.”

Noteworthy among media watchers is that Rare.us was created by Cox Media Group as a nontraditional digital-only site. Rare.us is, perhaps, the most successful digital-only venture from a traditional publisher. “With Cox Media Group’s investment, we were given time to find our voice as well as generate and curate content that delights our users and provokes social engagement.”

This milestone adds to a string of successes this year for the startup launched in 2013, but fully revamped in 2014 with a talented new editorial team. In March, Rare.us began an exclusive relationship with Random House to publish and promote some of its authors. And in June, Rare.us’s sales and editorial staff moved from Alexandria, Va., into expanded offices in the heart of Washington, D.C.
