L-A Radio: Owen Murphy Joins KFWB As New Program Director

The KFWB Asset Trust has announced that Sports Radio Programmer and Talent Coach Owen Murphy will be the Program Director for the station when it flips to sports.

KFWB 980 AM (5Kw) is expected to flip from N/T to Sports in September.

“I cannot adequately express how excited I am to be part of a team that is going to serve the Los Angeles sports radio audience in a manner never before heard,” Murphy stated.  “Having Jim Rome as a centerpiece of the station’s new lineup is a thrilling base to build upon for the passionate sports fans of Southern California."

Murphy programmed KIRO 710 AM ESPN in Seattle for a bit over a year in 2009-10.  He's been consulting stations, shows and personalities since.  He previously was a producer for MLB.com and for ESPN Radio, where he produced Mike and Mike in the Morning and The Dan Patrick Show.

“Owen has built great relationships with some of America's premiere sports talents,” said Trustee for KFWB Diane Sutter. “He has a unique perspective and will provide a fresh approach for sports radio fans in L-A.”

  1. Lost my allegiance to KFWB! Why not a compromise of both news and expanded sports. I have been a daily faithful listener on my way to work for many years.
I'm now forced to look for another news station. Too bad!
