NYC Radio: EIM OUT At WOR, Could Scott Shannon Get the Call?

UPDATE WEDNESDAY 6AM:  Contacted Tuesday, Shannon told David Hinckley at The NY Daily News he couldn’t “confirm or deny” any talks he might be having with potential new employers.

“I can tell you I will be back soon,” he said.

Menawhile, a Clear Channel spokesperson said there was no information on who will fill in for Segal the next few days or whether there is a timetable for finding a replacement.

The only ratings for Segal’s new show in New York, which came out Monday, were not encouraging. Meanwhile, WOR used fill-in host Hillary Barsky Wednesday.

Original Posting....

In a sudden turn of events, Elliott Segal appears to be OUT at CCM+E's Talker WOR 710 AM.

Mid-day host Mark Simone filled the air chair Tuesday morning with no mention of him sitting in for Segal.

Also, all mentions of EIM have been scrubbed from the WOR website. And all mentions of WOR have been scrubbed from EIM's Facebook page.

Many in the industry and listeners felt EIM was a bad fit for the station...a Rock-FM personality on a Talk AM?

Scott Shannon
And although Clear Channel had just completed a New York studio for his show, Segal told listeners in Washington and Richmond that he will not be moving to New York after all.

Now, let the speculation begin...Could former WPLJ Morning man and radio icon Scott Shannon be headed to WOR? Shannon is 66-years-old, older than the recently retired John Gambling, who is 63.

However, Shannon is more youthful-oriented and he could be just what WOR needs. And we may know very soon.  Also worthy of note, Shannon is the voice of the Sean Hannity Show which now airs weekdays on WOR.  And the bio page of the official Shannon website remains 'under construction'.

Mark Simone Tweeted late last evening that his fill-in role was for one day.

EIM appears to be continuing air in CCM+E's WWDC Washington DC and WRXL Richmond...at least for now.

  4. The Gambling dynasty is pretty hard to follow..That WOR chose a moron shows their administrative capacity. And I wonder how long anything will last as the Mets constantly cut in to Rush and Sean's time.I am noticing that as much as I love mark Simone, I just don't have the radio on at all anymore as WOR was the only station in my life. It's all over.

  6. VERY poor judgment looking for a Gambling replacement . How could they believe that this guy who I have never heard of acting like a high school kid would be a good fit?
Are they getting personnel advice from the Obama administration?
Clone Mark Simone! Or at least get his input. He is wonderful - a real pro.
Meantime Hillary is doing a credible job.

  10. Hillary still does not cut it for a front running morning show in NY. Who makes the decisions on programming ? First John Gambling then Joan hamburg.... Send whom ever it is back to school while swing sets are still available and put decent quality morning show hosts on BEFORE YOUR LISTENER BASE DROPS FURTHER.

  11. Hilary is doing a credible job. She needs to step up her game on current events though. She is way better than Len Berman or Tony Guida. Whatever WOR does please don't give the show to Joe Bartlett.

  12. I enjoy the morning WOR shows with Hilarie Barsky and Joe Bartlett. I listen in as much as I can. Did I hear at the end of Friday's show that Hilarie was saying goodby? I really like her and Joe working together. I hope I heard wrong. Also, enjoy Mark Simone's show. I stopped listening weeknights at 6PM when you changed everything and you went to sports. Why not get back Dean in that time slot. He had a good show too.
