St. Louis Radio: Clark Seeks Dismissal Of Pujols Suit

Former Cardinals slugger Jack Clark has asked that former Cardinals star Albert Pujols dismiss a defamation lawsuit against him, or at least clarify the accusations, according to stltoday.com.

Clark filed a motion in St. Louis County Circuit Court on Monday, saying that the suit filed in October didn't properly identify the elements of defamation or properly identify Pujols.

Clark was sued over comments Clark made in early August during “The King and The Ripper” sports talk program on WGNU 920 AM. Clark said on-air he knew for a fact that Pujols “was a juicer.” He also claimed that a former Pujols trainer confided in him about shooting up Pujols with performance-enhancing drugs in 2000. The trainer has denied saying that to Clark. The radio show was canceled. The company that produced the show issued a lengthy retraction and apology.

Pujols’ suit called Clark’s statements “malicious, reckless and outrageous falsehoods.”

Among other things, the motion points out that the juicer comment isn't defamatory, because the term could have many meanings, including, “in its most innocent sense, one who liquefies fruit and fruit pulp for oral consumption.”
