R.I.P.: Folk Singer, Activist Pete Seeger Dead At 91

Iconic folk singer and activist Pete Seeger, who wrote or co-wrote songs including, "If I Had a Hammer," "Turn, Turn, Turn," "Where Have All the Flowers Gone," and "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine," died on Monday after a brief hospitalization.

He was 94.

Seeger, who performed with a banjo, is also credited with popularizing "We Shall Overcome," which became the anthem of the civil rights movement. Known for his activism as well as his music, Seeger championed a wide range of causes, including civil rights, opposition to nuclear power and the death penalty, the cleanup of the Hudson River, and even the Occupy Wall Street movement.
