Cleveland Radio: The John Lanigan Era To Sign-off

The Cleveland radio personality and a morning mainstay on WMJI 105.7 FM announced that he will retire, according to The Plain Dealer.

John Lanigan will end his 29-year run at the station on March 29, following WMJI's annual Moondog Coronation Ball.

"It's been a long time coming," says Lanigan, via phone from Clearwater, Fla., where he was on vacation "I've been doing it for a long time and I'm 71 and I've been thinking about it for a while."

WMJI will pay tribute to Lanigan at the Moondog show, which will take place at The Q.

"We can't thank John enough for his dedication and performance over the years," says WMJI operations manager Keith Abrams. "We will continue to have a relationship with John moving forward, but it won't involve him getting up at 4 a.m."

Lanigan announced his retirement Friday, by calling into "The Lanigan and Malone Show," which he hosts with Jimmy Malone.

Lanigan's run in Cleveland began in 1970, when he became the morning show host at WGAR 1220 AM, to replace Don Imus. He left to work in Florida for two years in 1983. Lanigan returned to Cleveland in 1985 to work for WMJI and has remained there ever since.



Lanigan was inducted in the National Radio Hall of Fame in Chicago in November 2013.
