Longtime Connecticut radio personality Jerry Kristafer has lost his job at WDRC-FM

According to the Hartford Courant, Eric Fahnoe, vice president and general manager at Buckley Broadcasting which owns the Bloomfield-based WDRC AM and FM stations, announced Kristafer’s dismissal to staff Friday shortly after the 59-year-old finished his daily morning show.

Kristafer, whose ‘Big D Morning Show’ has been in radio broadcasting for decades. He worked at stations in New Jersey before coming to Connecticut where he worked at WDRC-FM for one 15-year stint before heading to New Haven’s WELI  where he hosted a morning news/talk radio show. He returned to WDRC in 2008, succeeding John Saville. Most recently he has shared the show’s hosting duties with fellow radio personalities Mike Stevens and Kim Zachary.

  5. The station could have at least informed listeners that Jerry was no longer employed. Poor public relations !!! New format sucks - can't understand a word that KIm says - does she have marbles in her mouth?

  7. I agree - back to the good old oldies 50s,60s & 70s. Plus stop playing the same few songs over and over.

  8. Unfortunate loss of a real PRO, who can't be replaced with a couple of "B-Players"

  9. To News Talk 960 I go! I've thought for years that DRC was a 2-bit station but very much liked listening to the oldies and they were at least smart enough to bring Jerry K back after being stupid enough to let him go. No matter what, I won't go back as I simply can't support a station that could give a whoot about nothing but $$. See Ya!

  10. I've been listening to DRC since the late 70's, but because of the change in programming I moved on to a Long Island station except for the morning drive. I've had enough and last week switched to satellite radio.

  11. The oldies is what made wdrc. Why did you change? Bring back the old format please!!!!

  12. I agree, the music they play now is too current; I prefer the 60's and 70's. I've switched stations due to the change in format.

  13. The audience, me, would have liked to have been informed with your recent dismissal. Does Mike and Kim actually think their funny? Getting tired of the guessing of 3 songs???? Will now have to search for another 60-70-80's radio show. Thanks for thinking of me and others - NOT

  14. Already changed stations. Got tired of listening to the same songs day in and day out. Hope Jerry pops back up locally.

  15. Listen to the comments being made. People are right...The new format sucks! Bring back the 50s, 60s, & 70s. The 80s, and after can't measure up. Mike & Kim are poor substitutes for JK. Another "brilliant" move, by management that doesn't know what they're doing. I'll be listening to my CDs, from now on. Really dumb!!

  16. Why would you do something this stupid anyway? Jerry was that station losing lots of listeners because of this can tell you that!! Too bad these decisions are never based on the public which is who keeps these stations in business!! Sorry to see you go Jerry will be searching for wherever you go!! Goodbye WDRC!!!

    1. I have both these stations as presets, so I'm listening to WJMJ one morning and I'm like "Is that Jerry Kristafer?" Yes, and I think he's a Pro and glad he landed on 88.9 FM.
