College-Age Adults Like Their Parents’ Music

Researchers say twenty-somethings are likely to really enjoy the music their parents listened to due to their emotional attachment to it.

To find this, researchers had 62 college students listen to two top hits from each year from 1955 to 2009.

Researchers found that personal memories linked with songs increased as the participants got older, but there was a drastic change in memories, recognition, perceived quality, liking and emotional connection with music popular in the early 1980s-- when the participants' parents were 20 to 25 years old.

Researchers say they discovered this phenomeon while trying to discover which period of music were the most memorable and which songs brought out the strongest feelings in people.
