CBS Marks Golden Anniversary of 30 Minute News Broadcast

On Sept. 2, 1963, what had been, since 1948, a 15-minute broadcast, anchored first by Douglas Edwards and then Walter Cronkite, doubled to 30 minutes overnight.

“CBS Evening News” anchor Scott Pelley honored the anniversary by taking Monday’s newscast back in time, and by going black and white. Pelley also traveled to New York’s Grand Central Terminal, which was then the home of Walter Cronkite‘s “CBS Evening News.”
