Pittsburgh Radio: Woman Wins KDKA-FM Gig

Stacy Kauffman
When she was a little girl, Stacy Amaral Kauffman thought she wanted to be the first female NFL referee.

“Then I realized it was probably a little too dangerous,” Kauffman told triblive.com. She has worked in public relations for the past 15 years. “So my dreams turned towards talking and writing about sports instead.”

Kauffman, 34, still may be making her own history, having been named the first female host on KDKA-FM 93.7 The Fan, emerging victorious Thursday night in the finals of a series of public auditions, in which more than 100 hopefuls vied for the weekend spot.

She will become one of the first local females in Pittsburgh sports-radio history to host her own talk show.

Her starting date, and the time slot and day for her show, is still to be determined, program director Ryan Maguire says.

“I'm interested in putting compelling talents on the air because our goal, quite simply, is to attract as many listeners as possible. I feel Stacy has that potential,” he says.

Though she has never worked in radio, she has been a guest on a few shows as a publicist.
