WMGK’S Camp Satisfaction to Help Feed Philly’s Hungry

When the Rolling Stones perform at Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday, June 18 and Friday, June 21, 102.9 WMGK’s Andre Gardner (weekdays 2p-7p) and Ray Koob (weeknights 7p-Midnight) are asking concert goers to satisfy the hunger of those in need in the Philadelphia area by bringing non-perishable food items to the concerts.

All items will be donated to Philabundance, the region’s largest hunger relief organization. The two DJs will be collecting food donations and broadcasting live from an RV parked on the sidewalk in front of the Wells Fargo Center’s Broad Street entrance from 2pm to Midnight on both June 18 and June 21. The station has named this charitable effort, Camp Satisfaction. The name holds a dual meaning – concert goers will be satisfying the needs of the less fortunate in the Philadelphia region and the song ‘(Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ is one of the Rolling Stones’ biggest hits.

“Hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation, Philabundance needs assistance feeding the needy in our area, all year long, especially when kids are out of school,” said  Koob.

“When school’s out, families in need lack access to the free and reduced meals that their children receive during the school year and they look to Philabundance for assistance,” added Gardner. More than 325,000 children in the Delaware Valley get free & reduced meals during the school year.

The station raised over 8,000 pounds of food (over four tons) for Philabundance in August of 2010 when Gardner camped out in an RV during Paul McCartney’s two concerts at the Wachovia Center (which is now the Wells Fargo Center). The station’s food collection campaign in 2010 was named, Camp McCartney.
