A fire at Greater Media’s sports talk WPEN 97.5 FM TheFanatic led to an extended period of dead air.
According to philly.com, dark smoke billowed from above the
studios of The Fanatic, 97.5 FM in Bala Cynwyd about 4:30 p.m.
Talk show host Mike Missanelli reported via social media
that everyone in the building had escaped without injury. A cell phone video
showed sooty clouds of smoke emanating from an upper story window.
"Fire in our radio building. We had to evacuate to the
parking lot. Thats why you're hearing dead air. Sorry!” Missanelli tweeted.
“Surreal. I’ve never been kicked off the air due to a catastrophe!”
The station was back on the air shortly after 5 p.m. with a
fire alarm that continued to blare.
