Earlier Posting...

Jack Diamond, a longtime fixture on Washington’s radio airwaves for more than two decades, has broadcast his last program on Cumulus-owned WRQX-FM Mix 107.3, according to The Washington Post.

Diamond was scrubbed from the station’s Web site after his broadcast Friday morning. Station Manager Mark O’Brien said in an e-mail that an announcement about Diamond’s replacement would be made today, according to The Washington Post.

“The Jack Diamond Morning Show” has been Mix 107.3’s marquee attraction for 24 years. It predates the station’s changeover in 1990 from a Top 40 station to an adult-contemporary outlet aimed at women.

The “Diamond” show mixed topical humor, interviews and listener call-in, with Diamond overseeing a rotating cast of sidekicks.

The show has slipped somewhat in the Arbitron ratings but has remained formidable, finishing 11th overall and 12th among listeners 25 to 54 years old, a key segment for advertisers.

Tom's Take: Mix 107.3 is looking to skew toward younger females to better compete with top-rated Kane over on Clear Channel's contemporary hit Hot 99.5, WITH.

120 comments:

  1. Tom's take is bs. Scumulus is trying to save a buck. Worst broadcasters in the business.

  2. Tom's take, cmon man. You've got to be kidding, are you a PR flak for Cumulus?

"Mix 107.3 is looking to skew toward younger females, blah, blah, blah"

Cumulus is looking to dump another local salary and fire another local legend and pipe in something on the cheap.

There's a REAL take on what happened. Sick to see you trying to cover for people like this.

  3. I will be finding another radio station

  4. I am going to another morning show. This is a shame. Jack we will all miss you in the morning

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm very dissapointed. It won't be the same

    ReplyDelete
  6. Mornings aren't the same without Jack Diamond. I have already switched stations. Good Luck Jack! Please let us know where you go.
Don't they realize that making the show like the others, it won't be heard.

  7. I have listened to Jack Diamond on MIX 107.3 since he came to the station. I cannot believe you have dumped him! Now you have lost another listener - me!

    ReplyDelete
  8. I was sorry to hear that a radio station I have loyally listened to since the 1980s dropped Jack Diamond and his crew. Jack Diamond was the most charismatic and caring announcer I had heard in awhile. I will reluctantly make the switch. Good luck to Jack Diamond!

  9. I have listend to Jace for several years. You have lost a listener, I have loved listening to Jack, and I am not one of your younger woman. I am so sick of hearing "wanting to aim towards younger crowd" I am sick of it. There are a hell of a lot of us older generation out there. I hope you show flops.

  10. Thought that Jack was on vacation- now that I know the truth, I am switching stations and deleting Mix 1073 from my FB page. So disappointed in this "business decision".

    ReplyDelete
  11. Obviously, Cumulus-owned WRQX-FM Mix 107.3 must be fighting off bankruptcy to dump Diamond's salary but they have also lost their only true asset. Oh well, I guess they will just air Rush Limbaugh reruns since noone will listen to their station any more.

  12. Take a look at the age brackets of who was coming in for free for all fridays, which was discontinued, any trips that happened, which have been discontinued, and the New Years Eve parties. I am 58, have been a devoted listener since 1993. Also, no more 5:30 club prize of the month. This is all about money. Jack lost his partner in crime, Jimmy. Get him back, pay him more. Get them both back. Although, they probably would not come back now. They were a great team together. Change is normal. Too much change = a loss of listeners, and this is what has happened! Good luck to you Jack Diamond, you are the best, and you deserve the best. You were shafted! Love your show babe!

    1. I am searching for a new station now myself. I am already missing Jack.

    2. We switched to 94.7 -- Tommy McFly. Not quite Jack, but the music is about the same and it's a far better show than Bert's (ugh).

  13. Very loyal 5:30 club member for 15 years. Jack and Jimmy brought a real life look at commuting in DC, fun things to do, becoming involved in your community and having a real and genuine closeness with your at work team.
Was really concerned when one morning Spanky didn't show up and no explanation was offered, then no Jack, then Ally and Brooke were split up. evidently the folks running the show do not know what the listeners desire, and being one of the listeners I can try to fill you in.
Fun, light conversation, enjoying the jokes and life experiences of the personalities. I know some days Jack would show up tired and complain about his not sleeping but it actually validated how I felt some mornings making the 1.5 hour commute up 95n. Ally brought a fun and light side to life as a young single going through the struggles and excitement of relationships-she made me root for her. Brooke brought the lighthearted look at showing up in a tough city to make friends and shared her very personal struggles and successes.
Really sad to see them broken up and boy this really messed up my commute-even worse than sitting still behind a bad wreck for 2hours.
I guess I pay all that money for satellite radio for a reason, I guess it's time to put it to good
    use.
Thanks for all those years guys-be proud of the following you created.

    1. This was beautifully stated! I couldn't have expressed it any better. We will miss the Jack Diamond morning show!

  14. Well I had to search and search to figure out what happened to a part of my morning- I go away for a couple of days come back and my morning is all messed up with no freakin explanation-shame on you 107.3
In the words of one smart pretty woman-BIG MISTAKE-BIG. Won't be listening to this Bert dude-he was not very kind in his comments to Jimmy when he made the move. Karma is very powerful-good luck sponsors!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Agree with the comments above! This is such a shame, and like a lot of the other listeners I will be switching stations, though don't know of any other station that will fill this gap. I remember the first day Jack started on the morning show, and have been a loyal listener since then. My husband and I won an Atlantis trip many years ago and went there with Jack and his crew - what a great time we all had. We've been to his promotional gigs (back when he was doing them), listened to his band on warm summer nights, spent New Years Eve 2000 at their fabulous New Years Eve party, handed over toys to him as he collected for Toys for Tots, and spent September 11th glued to Mix 107 as he and his crew stayed all day to keep us updated with the tragic events in a compassionate and professional broadcast manner. All those memories, plus all the mornings of listening to him as I got ready for work and then on the commute have made him feel like more of a friend than a distant radio personality. Jack, thank you for all the years on Mix 107, I wish you the best, and hope that we can continue to enjoy your band and one day will be able to tune in to another radio station to listen to your show!! Love your show, babe!

  16. If 107.3 thinks Bert is going to make it in this town now they are crazy. I"ve heard some of the trailers for the show and they talk about making fun of people! Dude, that was 20 years ago and very politically incorrect and just ignorant in this day and age. Jack got screwed. The executives should take a look at how the reinvention of JCPenney is working and how it worked for NetFlix!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sorry to see Jack go and Jimmy too and the guy they're bringing in is the one that got pissed at Jimmy for not telling him he was coming to the Atlanta market. I could kind of see this coming tho as the show had changed and when he was not there it was kind of stale and when Jack was there he didn't have Jimmy to bounce stuff around.............

    ReplyDelete
  18. Bert was a jerk when he was here before. He was rude to the listeners and thougt he was really funny.Carson and Chili better start looking for new jobs. They will be next.

    I won't be listening anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Not with you all here. Ever since Jimmy left it hasn't been the same. Brooke was a bad replacement for Erica. I had already made the switch to the Tommy show only occasionally flipping back.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Now that I know....I'm disgusted. What happened yo jimmy- why did he depart? And two years ago....what happens to Erica????? So sad.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I can't believe that Jack is gone. I have been a 5:30 loyal listener for over ten years. I waited all week for the station to tell us what happened to Jack, but nothing. I feel a emptiness and sad feeling inside. The Jack Diamond morning show has been a part of my life like a family and now it's gone. It's just not right, I too will be moving on to another station. We love you Jack and wish you the best of luck! Loved your show babe! xo

    ReplyDelete
  22. BIG MISTAKE Mix 107.3. It is very unfortunate that Jack has departed Mix 107.3. I remember when Bert left originally; what a relief it was (don't believe Jack and he saw eye to eye towards the end)! Jimmy was a little quirky, but he and Jack made a great team! Y'all also lost Chilli Amar! Way to go! I'll be switching stations too.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I, too, had to search the Internet to figure out what happened to the Jack Diamond Morning show! I woke up every morning to 107.3 for the last 8 years and knew that when Jack came on, I needed to be on the road. He and his crew made my 60-mile drive to work much more pleasurable, and I am devastated that he and Ally and Brook and Spanky are suddenly gone. I have always felt that the other radio station morning shows couldn't hold a candle to the Jack Diamond Morning Show, and now I have become a listener without loyalty. I surf the waves trying to find something to listen to in the morning, and have actually gone back to listening to the news because I find the other morning shows so annoying. Jack, a heartfelt "thank you" to you and your crew for making my mornings so much fun. As you go forward in life through the new doors that will undoubtedly open for you, please know that the Jack Diamond Morning Show will be missed by not only me, but by thousands and thousands of others in the DC area and around the world. You made a difference in all of our lives, and we'll never forget that. Good luck, and God bless!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jack was horrible. I am so glad he is gone! Could not stand the guy or his team. Constant talk about nothing and he played the same music ALL THE TIME. I do not know why you plople will miss him.

    1. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. At times I thought that Jack was arrogant, self-centered, and a self-proclaimed expert on everything. And the "ear-candy" could be whiney and immature. Kinda like a dysfunctional family. But I kept coming back to the show, year after year; must say something about me. I unknowingly tuned into the new programming, having been away from the radio for a couple days. I honestly felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. I will probably go back to NPR although my passenger isn't much of a fan.

  25. I am saddened by the news that Jack Diamond's morning show will no longer be on Mix 107.3. No reason to listen to this channel except for Carson. Bert was funny, but he was no Jack Diamond! I am shopping for a new station. Vanla!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I too searched the web to find out what happened to JD. I thought he was on vacay until I started hearing advertisements for the Burt show. Massive disappointment!!! I've followed the Jack Diamond show for years as it is the only morning show with any relatable substance. 107 has taken a turn for the worse! I will have to find another morning show. There is no way I'm listening to this Burt clown! Good bye 107.3... you lost another loyal listener!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I became a loyal listener since the Jack Diamond Show came on the air--I am always running while listening to his show. I loved all the conversation, especially the 5:30 club discussions. I feel that we all grew close to Jack and his teams over the years, and I will truly miss Jack. There are no comparable morning shows. This was a very UNWISE business decision because you cannot just look at the bottom line and cut like the government sequester. You have to have a brain and, in this case, a heart to know what is best for the radio station and its listening public. Jack, be sure to let us know where you will go/what you will do. Best of luck!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Now I know why I have been feeling without direction! Was on vacation myself, thinking that I missed an announcement about when Jack would be back. His show made my day start out in the right direction. I am the demographic that will disappear, along with my spending potential. So long to those who advertise on this station. I hope to hear that Jack is back somewhere else!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can't believed he is gone. The only morning show I listen to. I will be changing my AM morning show because the few clips they have already played are really bad. Hope to find Jack on another station soon.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Been listening to the morning show since 2003 and have seen the changes over the years - but it remained a quality show. The loss of this show is going to cause a loss of profits because you are going to lose a large listener base you are trying to sell to. Bad Move!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Really, you replaced a team that was brining it everyday with a team who is not even going to be based in DC!!! evidently Bert and his team don't see this as a Long term gig or just don't trust the company. See ya 107.3, it was a great 13 years but I guess I'll go find Chilli, JD, and the others they made me smile, laugh and made my commute half bearable!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. 107.3 has been my (and my family's) go-to radio pre-set for years--local, fresh, and fun. Jack Diamond and his team reliably got me to work and knew what how to make the morning easy and fun. And now you're bringing in a show from ATLANTA?? Why would I want to listen to that? I'll be looking for another local, clean radio station, and if I can't find it, it will be just and my iPod and AM radio for traffic reports.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I tuned in this morning to the radio station and was not impressed. I won't be listening in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Another listener signing off. This new morning team is AWFUL!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. No more 107.3 on my pre-sets. Cumulus, bad move! Jack, hope you are reading this. Love(d) your show babe!

    ReplyDelete
  36. This is all very sad. Jack, you will be missed. I have listened to you for over 10 years. Another loyal listener signing off. Loved your show babe...and always will.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I was so disappointed and angry when I tuned in this morning, The Bert Show was horrible. I have been listening to Jack Diamond and his co-hosts for so many years, I've lost count. Jack appealed to a varied audience with a great mix of subjects, people and music. I think you've made a huge mistake!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Seriously? Did you (107.3) check with the listeners before making such a terrible decision? Why would you assume that any of the current listeners (in any age group) would stay with you after you've insulted us? First, by your cold and unprofessional manner of removing the Jack Diamond show without an explanation, and second, by insulting us by bringing in Bert to focus on a younger population. The younger listeners aren't happy with the trash Bert produces. And good luck trying to bring in "new" younger listeners - too much competition out there already, and no way will you pull them over to Bert and his buddies. Your Jack Diamond listeners have class; that's why they liked Jack. But we won't stay around for trash. I've stopped listening to your station and have headed down the dial to classy Chili and her gang.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Who cares? Jack Diamond and his crew were awful. The only reason to listen was Jimmy as he could be entertaining at times. Jack is a self indulgent shmuck and Aly is a whiney entitled girl. Brooke is awful, sounds like she has been smoking for 50 years and acts like a pretty sleazy woman. I will not miss any of them.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sorry to see Jack go. Although I'm a classic rock fan and listen to another station, my wife has been an ardent listener for many years. We even went to one of Jack's New Years Eve parties a few years ago. Rode in with my wife to DC this AM and got fed up over two too long spiels about letting a seven year old try smoking and an even longer mess about looking at a boyfriend's tex messages from an old female roommate. Gimme a break already and play some music or even a commercial. Bert and crew, y'all aint gonna last too long.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree with the above. The new show is lame and sophomoric. Jack had class and was entertaining. I'll listen to Chili and Lou on WASH FM in the morning now. No more 107.3 on my radio.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I too will miss Jack terribly. I have been one of his 13 listeners since he first came on. He was the one constant in my life and made mornings bearable. I enjoyed hearing about his life, it made him seem genuine and human, and he made an effort to keep the show clean. I'd rather hear that than humor about sex and body functions, which seems to be the norm today. He had a great team with Jimmy and Brooke, what happened to them? He did need freshening up, but they threw out the baby with the bathwater. All he needed to do was stop weaving informercials into the program, which I hated, and get a new sidekick of the caliber of Jimmy. Mix also Mix needed and still needs to stop playing the same 5 songs over and over and get a real mix of music. He was the only reason I stayed with Mix. Couldn't they get a local team instead of a program from Atlanta?

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's not what you say, but how you say it.
It's not what you do, but how you do it.
    Badly done.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wow...now I know. This is just sad. Jack and company all the best to you in your new gig. And thank you for the many many years of great music and conversation in the morning while I drove to work. Loved your show!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Huge mistake. Count me as one less listener.

    ReplyDelete
  46. This is ridiculous and a shame! The show and it's esteemed host Jack are DC institutions - have been listening to Jack since I arrived here in 1990. Tuned in today not knowing about the change over and could not figure out what what up and who in the heck was hosting. Turned out to be the new "Bert Show" - it was HORRIBLE - I am sad that I will never get that 10 minutes of my life back! Couldn't figure out why a bunch of guys with Southern accents were doing on The Jack Diamond Morning Show and then when they cut to the commercial I found out that it was a totally new show. Was it an interview with a band? Did the station get sold and change the format to country? No - turns out they just canned Jack and crew and replaced it with crap - and not even local crap - crap shipped in from another state. Someone should tell Cumulous not to bother trying to compete with the Kane Show - the new crew will never hold a candle and all of Jack's fans will just tune in to 99.5 rather than give the ratings to Bert. I actually liked Bert when he was part of Jack's show, but his new deal stinks and so do his crappy co-hosts.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Seriously, this is what we have to listen to now? This new morning group is lame and juvenile. My radio went off this morning at 6 and until 6:45, there was no mention of even the time or a weather report. Turned the station at 6:45 to something else. Good luck in whatever your future holds for you Jack. Thanks for the great morning shows. You always made me smile. Class act.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Bring Jack diamond and the rest of the crew back!!!!!! You have just lost another listener until Jack is back!!! Who ever made the decision to let jack go your axx needs to be fired!!!!,

    ReplyDelete
  49. Good. It was a dated show and he has a terrible sense of humor. There were too many people in the studio and the transitions between them were very awkward.

    ReplyDelete
  50. If we had wanted Imus in the Morning or Howard Stern wannabes we wouldn't have been loyal Jack Diamond listeners. Good luck with finding the new younger listeners your station says it's looking for. You can count me out!

    ReplyDelete
  51. The only time I listened to broadcast radio was to listen to Jacks show the rest of time was spend listening to XM radio. Now it's going to be XM full time until Jack has a new show. And to the boob that fired Jack enjoy your job while it lasts.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The KANE SHOW? That's what this station is striving for? Younger listeners. Seriously? BIG mistake. Kane show is vulgar and classless. Best of luck trying to find someone to replace Jack Diamond! You are gonna need it
    !

    1. So true! This morning, discussing boob picture subject is just horrible! I had my kids in the car and had to turn off the radio. If this is a highlight of the new show, I am no longer your listener.

  53. It was time Jack went. It was his way or nothing else. He kept people around who drooled over him. He couldn't stand anyone else getting popular or better than him. Bert let earlier bcoz of Jack. Tommy was smart to realize and moved on. He is doing great for an youngster. No chance under Jack.
Jack you had your run now move along.

    1. I so agree....he can go back to Potomac Darnsville of which there is no such place . He lives in Darnsville but he had to always add "Potomac" so it sounded better. I listened for 18 years and left 18 months ago because I could no longer stand listening to him or ADD Jimmy (he was horrible). I now listen to Tommy McFly who is humble and caring....something Jack never was!

  54. I agree with everyone above - this is so disappointing. The new show is awful and as of this morning I have switched. No more MIX 107.3 any time during the day - since I listened to JD in the morning, my car radio was tuned in to 107.3 all day. No more. I will find another home, and hopefully, one day, I will find JD somewhere on the air waves again. He is professional, interesting, informative, and has a pleasant and loving personality. We will miss you, Jack, until we hopefully find you again somewhere on the air waves!

  55. Not a regular listener, as Harvey...er...Jack always rubbed me the wrong way. False modesty does that. Before Bert leaving for Dallas was the last time I consistently listened, Jimmy was nowhere near as good, so I left. We'll see if Bert can stand on his own, but it will be a quick check, and then maybe back to 98 Rock or the Tommy show...

Good Luck Harvey, and Good Luck Bert as the pressure is on you...

  56. I kept thinking there was something wrong with my radio...I manually changed the dial looking for Jack and company. I too pay for XM but always listened to them in the morning to start my day. I came home and searched the internet to find out what happened. Good luck Jack and Brooke (I heard Ali this morning so I guess she is still there). Maybe someone else in the area will be smart enough to pick you up..I hope so, us 50 somethings need you back!

  57. No more cheese! You've lost another listener.

  58. Oh Boy, does the new show with Bert STINK!! Obnoxious, sophomoric...I could go on and on.

  59. Sorry to hear this. I'll be removing 107.3's preset from my car radio.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Bert was terrible when him and Jack were together on Mix 107.3 many years ago. They shipped him down south because their ratings slipped after pairing him with Jack. His show is sooo juvenile which I guess is what the station is looking for. I will sure miss Jack. I wish him the best and hope to hear him on another station soon.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I too greatly miss Jack Diamond and his crew. Whatever happened was poorly handled by MIX107.3 -- but wherever Jack goes now, those listeners will reap the benefit of his warm, caring nature and his resonant voice. It's a great loss to the DC area.

I've listened to the Bert Show twice now and I'm pretty much done. Not interesting, juvenile, mean-spirited. Doesn't add anything to my long morning commute. I'm looking for another radio station. Maybe I'll go back to more CDs and audiobooks with the occasional hop over to 103.5 for news, traffic and weather. MIX 107.3, you were my preferred station for many years. But no more.

Jack, if you read these messages, THANK YOU for the many, many hours of entertainment, insight, humor and just great radio talk that you brought to the local airwaves and to the long hours I spent chauffeuring kids to school and commuting to work. I wish you all the best in the future and hope to hear your voice again on the radio.

  62. I feel like I've lost an old friend. I've listened to the Jack Diamond morning show for many years. He would take you into his personal space and made you feel like you were part of his family. This 'Bert' guy is not half as intelligent, humorous or as personable as Jack is. I'm very disappointed with 107.3!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I came to the Internet because I had no idea what was happening. Thought Jack was on vacation, then tried 2 days listening to Bert which I will not do again. I have been listening to Jack since the early 90s and I can't believe he's gone. I didn't even hear what ever happened to Jimmy. Big mistake on the radio station's part, for sure, because you lost me as a fan(I'm in my early 60s)

  64. I have enjoyed listening to the Jack Diamond Morning Show for many years on my commute to work. Jack and his morning crew were always entertaining...good music, fun conversations, local traffic, and even great movie reviews. Many times I found myself laughing out loud as I drove along listening to the jokes and banter. How could 107.3 cancel such a great show? Shame on you! Jack and his Morning Show were like family to many of us. Love your show, babe! Good luck, Jack...another DC station will be glad to have you and your faithful Arbitron listeners.

  65. I had been off for a few days and turned the radio on at work and thought I had the wrong station. I was soooo disappointed. Today if I heard the word penis once I heard it ten times. The show was strange at best. Not what I want to hear in the morning. BRING JACK DIAMOND MORNING SHOW BACK PLEASE. I will be switching my pre-set station!!!!!!

  66. I hate Burt. I couldn't figure out what was going on like everyone else. I thought I was on the wrong radio station. A 10 year listener to the station because of Jack Diamond. I can't stand to hear these commercials about Burt this Burt that. I guess I will have to find a new radio station. I can't stand my commute now. Loved you show babe.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Burt is not good. He's also not Jack. Reality is...I would tune into 107.3 for Jack in the morning and it keep it there throughout the rest of the day...Removing Jack just cost Cumulus a daylong listener. Boobs!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I stopped listening to Jack Diamond shortly after Erica left and (surely once Tommy left) because it was not the same plus Jack had the tendency to act like Oprah and make everyone's situation her own. I listen to either Tommy (94.7), Lou (97.1) or Kane (99.5). Syndicated radio is not that bad people...it's actually better

    ReplyDelete
  69. Just deleted 107.3 from the stored functions on all our radios. Jack Diamond was the only reason we listened. We'll be moving with him.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Listened to 107.3 again today hoping the morning show would get better. The show is awful - who cares about the host's teeth? After 15 minutes of his rambling on, I gave up and moved over to the Kane show where I'll stay until I figure out where Jack Diamond is. Removed 107.3 from my stored stations and won't be going back - unless they come to their senses and bring back Jack.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Total loss, it was a great early morning show. VERY BAD MANAGEMENT DECISION TO END THIS SHOW.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Not sure there's anything wrong with wanting to mix things up and get a fresh perspective on life from a new morning host. They did that with Jen and Jason on 106.5 (on after the morning show?) but the replacement for Jason (Priestly) worked out well.He and Jen really mesh .Their morning show however, not so much. They broke those guys up a few months back, moved people around and It's just not the same without JoJo. (It was the same thing as 107.3.. no anouncement to their audience that hosts were leaving and they had listeners scratching thier heads wondering why contracts weren't reissued. I have listened to this new morning show on 107.3 twice now (and wondered along with everyone else wth happened to Jack??) I don't care for it..Not sure I meet the "targeted" demographic mind you.. Maybe they are changing things to get ahead in the ratings? Or they wanted new radioads that targeted a new demographic? Younger people tend to spend more money. So more on air ads=more money for the station, right? Like I said.. 106.5 just had a big personnel overhaul. (not sure about their ratings after the change)
I did feel that the Jack Diamond Morning show was good.. but slightly stale. Not sure If changing people around (send Jack to afternoons or give him new sidekicks) would have helped. I never disliked his show.. It was a relaible station that I frequently listened to. (TBH.. I have a few stations I enjoy) I was never a true loyal listener..more of a channel flipper tbh. But I am kind of sad to see him go.He's been a constant for so long in this area. Change isn't always bad.. But pulling the rug out from the loyal listeners upsets people. They went about things wrongly IMO..Maybe they can do that with a younger audience but us "older" people expect manners.. (properly annoucing change) I hope Jack finds another station to go to.. even If he relocated ..there's always Iheartradio so we can catch his shows from faraway places if need be. Best Of luck to you Jack. Thanks for your years of loyalty and dedication to us every morning.

  73. Earlier last week I woke up to MIX 107.3 and I thought I must had bumped the radio to some other station by mistake. Half asleep, waking up to some D-bag talking about his wife's addiction, trying to seem faux "real". WTF? Way to start my day in a depressed mood. Then, like other people here, I listened for a couple of days to try to figure out what happened to Jack. No mention, no explanation... and listening more and more to Bert made me wonder when I decided to become a sophomore again? I mean, if I wanted people talking about their penises or being retarded, I could listen to Elliot. Jack may have been annoying at times with his 'Burma Shave' style shills or his believe that his 'band' was awesome. God knows his name-dropping from being in the 'business' got annoying too... but with all that, I can honestly say he seemed to be a funny, caring, and enjoyable personality. Companies everywhere are stupidly chasing the bottom line with the mantra 'do more with less'. 107.3 is in a race to the bottom... we are seriously becoming a society like in the movie 'Idiocracy'.

  74. Where did my morning family go?? Driving to work last week and thought I had the wrong station!! You failed MIX 107.3. I'm finding a new station! I had to listen to some long, drawn out story about house guests visiting people I couldn't care less about. The people have no charisma AT ALL!! Thanks for all the years Jack & Co.! I miss you in the mornings.

  75. Worst decision ever. I hope Cumulus goes bankrupt. Bert's show sucks and I have changed my station to 94.7. Jack Diamond will come out on top!!

  76. I will miss the Jack Diamond Morning Show a LOT. While it wasn't perfect (note to Jack - just because some celebrity was on the show once doesn't make them your lifelong friend) - it was personable, funny, and enjoyable.

My JD dream team was Jack, Erica, and Jimmy. Erica got divorced, Jimmy moved on to Atlanta, and now Jack has gotten the boot.

I tried to give Burt a chance. Day 1: Hocking loogies. Day 2: Vomiting. Day 3: Getting girls to show their boobs. 3 strikes you're out.

To all from the Jack Diamond Morning Show...Loved Your Show Babe.

  77. I'm from Towson, MD, and while my commute isn't too long, I truely enjoyed the Jack Diamond morning show. I totally agree with many of the above comments. It was a clean show, with current topics, funny and inteligent. I have listened to a few minutes that last couple of mornings, and they were STILL talking about some STUPID story, with the same person. Uugggggghhhh, that's why I switched from other shows to Jack Diamond, didn't want to hear about boob stories in the morning. Hope you are a great success Jack Diamond, as well as Jimmy, Brooke and Ally, your chemistry on the air will be SORELY MISSED!!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Get rid of Brooke and Ally while you're at it. Ally's annoying and Brooke is trash.

    1. Couldnt agree more. That show was terrible. All they did was sit there and agree with Jack on every single thing he said. Terrible. Good move by the station.

  81. Really don't like the new show. Of course I am biased, but I tried listening to it on a few occasions for their "best of" before it officially launches tomorrow/Thurs. It's simply NOT funny. I don't need the kids to be hearing that language on the way to school. They also have numerous awkward "pauses" or "silences" on the show...it was weird...sounded like the "talent" didn't know what/how to respond to bits or couldn't think fast enough on their feet. VERY SAD to see Jack Diamond off the air and extremely disappointed in the way the station handled it. JD has ALWAYS been a class act and calming voice in the craziness of the world and I hope he lands on his feet. To find out that the "new show" for the "next generation" (WHATEVER!) is coming from ATLANTA is an insult to all of the WDC/Metropolitan area. If we want garbage bits and trash talk there's plenty of other stations out there to make us squirm. BRING BACK JACK!

  82. No one will ever fill Jack's shoes. A nice man, good husband. I will sorely miss the happy sounds of Jack and all the morning show stars. The Bert is a Boobie Bird. I will follow Jack wherever he goes. The station is a downer now....today's topic was tricking a girl to send pics of her boobs to some jerk. The mindless discussion went on forever. Unreal and a waste of airtime Goodbye

  83. Jack is gone and so is another listener - we can only hope your ratings come to reflect your wise business decisions. Jimmy, Ally and Brooke had great chemistry with Jack. Also, no Chilli in the afternoon - no longer worth listening to at any time of day. Jack, loooove your show babe - whereever you take it -to give us the call letters and we'll tune in!

  84. Anyone remember 105.1 WAVA? Yeah, didn't think so... Good business decisions all around in the broadcasting industry.

  85. I was shocked this morning when I tuned to 107.3 and Jack Diamond and his crew were gone! The JD Morning show was interesting, family friendly, funny and informative. A station with those traits is far and few between today. As soon as I hear where Jack is broadcasting, I'll be tuning in. You lost a legend.

  86. Like others, I thought I had accidentally changed stations when I kept hearing commercials for the Bert Show. Thanks to the powers that be at 107.3 for making my morning commute less bearable. I watched Bert's promo out of curiosity. What a tragic mistake Cumulus has made! Have already unsubscribed from their emails and removed 107.3 from my presets. Jack, I hope better things are ahead for you. Loved your show, babe.

  87. I can't believe Jack is off the air. he has been part of my mornings for many years. Sad to see him go...wish him and his team all the best of luck! loved your show, babe! ps. not impressed with the Bert Show...will definitely be looking out for something else

  88. Jack Diamond was my bright start to the day. I was a loyal listener for 10 years. Without Jack the show is boring and mundane. He made the show what it was. I look forward to hearing Jack's witty banter again. Jack please keep us informed as to where you will be. We miss you.

  89. I've listened to the Jack Diamond Morning Show since the early 90's. Before that, I listened to other hosts on the old WQRX - such as David Lawrence, Lou Katz, etc. (yes, I'm totally showing my age).

I was surprised when I returned from vacay at April's end to find Carson doing the morning show, but I figured Jack was away for just a few. Then, there were all these promos for 'The Bert Show', in the JDMS time slot! Wait, What?

As a matter of routine, I tuned into Mix 107.3 several mornings this week. I must say that the Bert Show is terrible. No, I meant horrible. And juvenile, uninteresting, unfunny and gross. And those are just some of the nicer comments I can offer on the topic. What was Management thinking in letting Jack & Co. go? MAJOR error in judgment, dudes.

    1. I obviously didn't get the memo. Like you, I figured Jack and company was away for some reason. What I thought was the "fill-in" show, "Bert Show" was/is so bad that I have been channel surfing all the way to work every day trying desperately to find something as entertaining without being trash until such time as Jack and Company returned. I am literally grieving this loss. Huge management mistake. Still channel surfing for something to listen to...maybe I can buy old 'seasons' of The Morning Show and listen to tapes.

  90. I've given the Bert Show a chance the past couple of weeks and it sucks! Bring Jack back!!!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Hate this new "Bert" show - and that's a bad name that doesn't resonate in audio....I didn't even know that's what it was called until reading about it just now. Thought it was "bird" or "berg" -- it just sounds BAD and not nearly as strong as "Jack Diamond" - please!!!
The first time I turned on this heinous new show, I heard him talking about how he was so drunk, he threw up on himself in the bathroom. WHAT?!?!?! GROSS! And that sounded so immature and fake, it will NEVER stand a chance against Kane show. Forget it. Bring Jack back. I'm done with Mix 107.3. You mad a hugely bad decision.

  92. Without the Mix 107.3 JD New Year's event, I don't know what I'm going to do this year.

    ReplyDelete
  93. BIG MISTAKE! I cannot believe that JD is gone from Mix 107.3. I have listened to him for years on my way to work. I am so angry about his departure and the way it was handled (or should I say not handled). His show and temperment-style were staples of the Metro area for sure. If you are looking for a younger audience, well then you got it, 'cause this "ole gal" will never listen to Mix 107.3 again.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I agree - BIG MISTAKE!! I tried listening to the Bert show and it is absolutely terrible. Mix 107.3 has certainly lost me as a listener!

    ReplyDelete
  95. I too was a loyal listener. I can not stand the Bert Show. I have honestly tried now for several days. I just can not listen to them. I will have to find another station in the morning for my 30 minute drive. Mix 107.3 made a huge mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Oh thank god. I can finally listen to this station in the morning again. I literally turned the sound off every time jack started to speak. So pompous and, even worse, boring. And the sidekicks added nothing. Jimmy? Really? Welcome back Bert! I've missed you!!

    ReplyDelete
  97. I was one of the people that Arbitron polled last year and I gave 107.3 the best rating BECAUSE I LISTENED TO JACK EVERY MORNING! His crew was like a funnier, hipper, family. Here's hoping the station management checks postings for trends because pretty much nobody thinks that dumping Jack was a good thing. Here's another news flash - the "target demographic" to compete with Kane already has shows to listen to. I had to go search the internet to figure out why Jack Diamond was gone. Not classy of the management to pull a bait and switch on the audience. Thinking Jack was just gone to Iceland on vacation or some such, I listened to the drivel spouted by the "Bert Show." I truly disliked the replacement show - just have no connection to the host "Bert", the topics he raises, or the people he interacts with on air. His voice is grating and the taste level is questionable. I've been shopping around for something to listen to - ended up with National Public Radio and will be checking out "Tommy" at 94.7. I'm hoping that Jack comes back with something soon. Once he does, I'm switching to whatever station carries him. I don't need a show out of Atlanta. I miss the local connections that Jack provided.

  98. Jack was a bit pompous, but Bert really sucks. How old is this guy, five? Looking for a new local dj now......

  99. I've been a loyal listener for many years........see what that got me. I have already changed stations. Shame on you!!

    ReplyDelete
  100. I was a loyal listener to Jack's morning show. He made it fun, clean and relevant. I have already switched to another station on my clock radio. If Jack stays in the area I will tune into which ever show he DJs.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Jack Diamond is a CLASS ACT and I believe MIX 107.3 and the new Bert show will LOSE all of Jack's listeners, which was a formidable group. I believe that Jack used to do the show with Bert in the early days - Bert was the side kick before he left? Anyway, you will lose an incredibly loyal audience. Good luck with the younger listeners... they are very fickle and won't nearly have the loyal followers that Jack Diamond had.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I hate the new show and will not be listening. Jack Diamond was the only reason I listened in to 107.3 in the morning. Now, I will just bring my favorite CD's and stop listening to morning radio except for the weather and traffic reports on WTOP. Whose stupid idea was it anyway to get rid of Jack Diamond and his talented crew. Whoever it was, should have been the one let go!

    ReplyDelete
  103. I have been a loyal listener for the past 23 years! I pray that JD will make some kind of announcement about where/what radio station he's moved on to. Listened to the Bert show for a millisecond...it's crap! Changed over to 97.1 with Chili and Lou, not the same, but good. I listen all day at work and miss JD and his crew. JD, I hope this change doesn't make you bitter, Karma is a bitch and 107.3 execs will get theirs. You will be blessed with something better, I'm sure. Love your show, babe!

  104. We were in San Francisco when Jack was and we listened to him there. As it happened, we moved to DC at about the same time as he did (1987) and found him on 107.3. We were loyal listeners from 1987 to 2013. I can't believe that they dumped him with out allowing him a chance to say good bye - so much for loyalty. In turn, we will not say good bye to Mix 107, we'll just leave.

    ReplyDelete
  105. So sad to see Jack go. I listened to Bert years ago with jack. Not too bad then but childish humor now and not appropriate with children in the car. I'll be finding another station.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Loved Jack's show in the mornings. I tried the new show for a while but it was just awfully grinding and asinine (also disappointing that it's SO not appropriate for smaller kids). Bad programming decision.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I hate the new show as well as MIX107.3! All the good people are gone...Jack, Aly, Chilli and Jimmy. What on earth are you guys doing. You have run the station into the ground. Peach Out!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Who the heck has ruined my mornings!? I could always head into work with a smile after listening to Jack and co.! This new guy...bad...boring..lifeless..and content too totally different! Someone needs to apologize for their BAD mistake then fix it.....but if I was Jack I would tell them to just take a long walk off a short pier! What morons! Jack was mornings in DC! Jack find somewhere that appreciates you style and grace and never look back! I'd say I am going to switch stations but there is nothing left now that doesn't make me feel dirty after listening to it so I will just have to buy my kids earplugs and sing myself!

  109. New show is so bad they have removed it (due to multiple requests) from the Pentagon Athletic Center.

  110. I gave the new "Bert" show format a shot, sorry, falls short, moving on to another station.

  111. For the love of God....I beg of you please bring back the Jack Diamond Morning Show !! What are you people doing. Don't you get it, we want a local person. That Bert Show was a joke, now that they are gone you need to eat crow and beg Jack to come back.
