Suburban Chi WWYW Rebrands As The Fox

WWYW-FM, known on the air as "Y 103.9 - The Greatest Hits Of All Time," dropped its mostly syndicated Oldies/Classic Hits format. In its place, the station has flipped the format to Classic Rock and has re-branded as "103.9 The Fox."

According to Chicago Radio And Media, the Mile High Trust, which officially owns and operates far northwest suburban WWYW-FM and WZSR-FM, while NextMedia attempts to sell off the stations, has applied with the FCC to change the WWYW call letters. The new call letters, if/when approved, will be WFXF.

The station, which has been almost entirely syndicated from the Tom Kent Network, with the exception of a pair of local weekend shows, will now be entirely live and local during the weekday daytime hours.

The new morning show will be hosted by Ben Herman, who comes to WWYW-FM/WFXF-FM from KCCQ-FM in Des Moines, IA, where he was known on the air as Benny Black. There he previously worked with current WWYW-FM Program Director Ryan Wild. Herman did his final KCCQ show on February 10th, before making the move to Chicago area.

General Manager Jack Taddeo said: "This modification will allow us to better serve our Northwest suburban communities and provide increased opportunity for existing and future advertisers of both WWYW and our sister station, WZSR."
