Atlanta Radio: Cumulus Launches ‘The Walk’

Atlanta listeners looking for a positive radio experience can now take 'The Walk'.  The Walk 98.9 FM promises ‘Positive, Uplifting Radio” and is actually a 250-watt translator that Cumulus Media Monday started at noon to use to simulcast a Christian-Country hybrid music format on WWWQ-HD2 99.7FM.  Songs about drinkin' beer or chasing women are out.

The frequency was formally the home of The Bone a short-lived 5-month format dumped this past Friday.

The station promises a music format for people whose family values are strong and who are tired of being offended by what they usually hear on the radio (other Cumulus stations included).  The Walk is touted as a radio station for people who want to hear their favorite songs without anything that inappropriate or embarrassing.

The Walk says they’ll play music from core artists such as  Michael W. Smith, Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Stephen Curtis Chapman, as well as Kenny Chesney, Amy Grant, Third Day, Mercy Me and others.

“We're perfect to listen to when you want to escape all of the negativity in the world. No silly or inappropriate DJ talk and music that’s safe to listen to no matter where you are and no matter when you listen."

The station obviously is targeting listeners of Salem Communications ‘The Fish and other country stations.  The translator’s coverage area is the Atlanta Perimeter and will need to attracts listeners on-line.  But if The Walk is judged a 'success' maybe the format will be given a shot on a full-powered FM frequency.
