6/11 WAKE-UP: Apple Intelligence Unveiled


Apple said its new feature could offer a personalized version of generative artificial intelligence to users. The systemwide update to its devices, dubbed “Apple Intelligence,” offered a preview of what many consider to be the holy grail of AI: a voice assistant with enough personal user information to meaningfully help complete numerous tasks. The iPhone maker has partnered with OpenAI and its ChatGPT for some new AI functions, such as answering more complex queries or composing messages. Apple’s AI can’t handle those yet.

The unveiling at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference comes after years of playing it safe with generative AI. Apple now has to catch up with Microsoft, Alphabet’s Google and other rivals that have already begun to integrate generative AI into their core products.

➤HUNTER JURY TO RESUME DELIBERATIONS:  The jury in Hunter Biden’s gun trial began deliberations. President Biden’s son opted not to testify in his own defense, after days of his ex-girlfriend, his ex-wife and the widow of his brother, Beau, speaking in Delaware federal court about his drug abuse and the turmoil it caused the family. The trial also presented headaches for his father’s presidential re-election campaign. Hunter Biden is accused of lying about his drug addiction on an application to buy a handgun in 2018. He has pleaded not guilty.

➤BIDEN PLAN GETS U-N BACKING:  The United Nations Security Council on Monday backed a proposal outlined by President Joe Biden for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip and urged the Palestinian militants to accept the deal aimed at ending the eight-month-long war. Hamas welcomed the adoption of the U.S.-drafted resolution and said in a statement that it is ready to cooperate with mediators over implementing the principles of the plan "that are consistent with the demands of our people and resistance."Russia abstained from the U.N. vote, while the remaining 14 Security Council members voted in favor of the resolution supporting a three-phase ceasefire plan laid out by Biden on May 31 that he described as an Israeli initiative. The resolution welcomes the new ceasefire proposal, states that Israel has accepted it, calls on Hamas to agree to it and "urges both parties to fully implement its terms without delay and without condition."


Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with leaders in Egypt and Israel to push President Biden’s cease-fire plan despite Israel and Hamas’ skepticism. The proposal had received widespread support in the Arab world, with Hamas being the outlier, Blinken said. His three-day tour of the Middle East comes amid heightened tensions after Israeli forces rescued four hostages in central Gaza on Saturday, leading to heavy fighting in a crowded neighborhood. Gaza health authorities said hundreds of Palestinians were killed, while Israel’s military said around a hundred people, mostly militants, were killed or wounded.

➤MASSIVE FIRE ENGULS MIAMI APARTMENT BUILDING: A massive blaze broke out inside an apartment complex in Miami Monday morning, and a man was found shot inside in what officials said was the city's first three-alarm fire in 25 years. 

At the scene: One person inside the building was found with gunshot wounds and was taken to a nearby hospital. At least two firefighters were hospitalized in the vast response, which saw 40 units deployed and multiple residents rescued from their balconies as the building burned behind them. As of Monday afternoon, 40 people had been rescued from the building, and Miami Fire Rescue officials said the fire was under control, and under investigation.

➤BIDEN TARGETS PRO-LIFERS:  The Biden administration has been busy prosecuting pro-lifers since the overturn of Roe v. Wade two years ago, but dozens of attacks on pregnancy centers and churches remain unprosecuted. In the two years since the leak of the Supreme Court Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, pro-life churches and pregnancy centers have been vandalized, broken into, threatened and even firebombed by pro-abortion activists. While only prosecuting a handful of individuals involved in these attacks, the Department of Justice has occupied its time by imprisoning pro-lifers who protest at abortion clinics. Daily Caller

➤PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRATS URGE BOYCOTT OF BIBI SPEECH: A growing chorus of House Democrats say they’re planning to steer clear of next month’s speech by Benjamin Netanyahu before a joint meeting of Congress, arguing that the Israeli prime minister’s handling of the Hamas War — and his repeated snubbing of President Biden’s preferred approach to the conflict — demand a show of protest from liberals on Capitol Hill. “I won’t attend and turn my back towards him,” Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) said. “So I’m just gonna stay away.”

➤PELOSI CALLS IT 'REVISIONIST HISTORY: Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) laid blame on herself for the lack of National Guard troops at the US Capitol Building on Jan. 6, 2021, video footage released by House Republicans on Monday showed.  As rioters stormed the seat of Congress, Pelosi, 84, fumed about the lack of “accountability” and accepted “responsibility” for a lack of security ahead of former President Donald Trump’s “Stop The Steal” rally, the video clip – shot for an HBO documentary by the congresswoman’s daughter, Alexandra Pelosi – showed.  

“We have responsibility, Terry,” Pelosi is heard telling her chief of staff Terri McCullough as they’re whisked away in a vehicle from the Capitol. ”We did not have any accountability for what was going on there, and we should have. This is ridiculous.”  Pelosi then appeared to chide McCullough for asking her amid the chaos if they should call in the National Guard.

➤SOCIALITE SENTENCED FOR MURDEER OF TWO BROTHERS: A Los Angeles socialite who was convicted of murder for killing two young boys with her car during a chase her with lover whined to the judge that she has suffered enough — before he gave her 15 years to life in prison. Rebecca Grossman, 60 — who killed brothers Jacob, 8, and Mark Iskander, 11, in a hit-and-run incident in 2020 — made a desperate plea to Superior Court Judge Joseph Brandolino to go easy on her as prosecutors demanded she receive the max of 34 years to life in state prison. Her lawyers argued for her to be let off with probation. But Brandolino gave her 15 years to life, and ordered her to pay $47,000 in restitution. Her husband, renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Grossman and her daughter Alexis and son Nick, also submitted letters to the court along with about three dozen of Grossman’s supporters asking for a probationary sentence. Grossman stood by his wife through her trial, despite revelations that she was drinking with her then-lover, former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Scott Erickson before the crash.

➤FETTERMAN INJURED:  Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) and his wife Giselle were hospitalized following a two-car-crash in Maryland Sunday. Fetterman was driving a Chevrolet Traverse and struck the rear of a Chevrolet Impala on Interstate-70 in Hancock, according to a Maryland State Police. The department said in a statement that the driver of the Impala was also taken to War Memorial Hospital in West Virginia. No citations were given and that an investigation is ongoing, according to the department. A spokesperson for the senator said that the Fettermans were taken to the hospital out of an abundance of caution and John was treated for a bruised shoulder. The office did not disclose Giselle's injuries.


⚾YANKEES 4 ROYALS 2: Carlos Rodon threw seven solid innings, leading the New York Yankees to a 4-2 win against the host Kansas City Royals on Monday. The game featured two key lineup changes for the Yankees: Juan Soto returned from a three-game absence caused by left forearm inflammation, and he went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run as the designated hitter. Aaron Judge got his first day off of the season.

Rodon (9-2) allowed a run on five singles to win his seventh consecutive start, extending the best stretch of his career. Michael Tonkin earned his first save of the year with a scoreless ninth.Kansas City's Seth Lugo (9-2) yielded four runs in seven innings. Hunter Renfroe left the game in the fifth inning with a fractured left big toe.

🏀HURLEY DECLINES $70M JOB OFFER: Hours after he decided to spurn the Lakers’ head-coaching offer to stay with UConn, Hurley briefly explained his reasoning. “I am humbled by this entire experience,” Hurley said in a statement. “At the end of the day, I am extremely proud of the championship culture we have built at Connecticut. We met as a team before today’s workout and our focus right now is getting better this summer and connecting as a team as we continue to pursue championships.”

Hurley, who has led the Huskies to back-to-back national championships, was offered a six-year, $70 million contract by the Lakers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. But Hurley, 51, is motivated to lead the first team to three straight NCAA championships since John Wooden’s UCLA teams won seven straight from 1966-73, according to the report.
