R.I.P.: AC McCullough, Longtime WHOT-FM Morning Host

Longtime Valley radio personality AC McCullough of WHOT 101's 'AC and Kelly in the Morning' has died, according to HOT 101 General Manager Bill Kelly.

He was 76-years of age.

McCullough began his career in radio 52 years ago. Since 1989, he has been entertaining listeners alongside his on-air partner Kelly Stevens.

AC had become part of what were known as the “WHOT Good Guys.” He was working with broadcasting legends, people he grew up with and revered.  “And you know, the guys were there — Boots Bell, Johnny Kay, Jerry Star. They were all there. They were all my mentors,” AC said.

By 1975, AC was hosting the morning show, and in 1989 was joined by Kelly Stevens. “AC and Kelly in the Morning” has become synonymous with Youngstown radio.

“I love it when we are able to just find the topic, to find something that we can just riff on because it’s very easy for us,” AC said.

"He was a great talent who loved Youngstown and Youngstown loved him back," said Bill Kelly. "The Valley has lost a friend and a legend."

A quote from AC's HOT 101 biography reads, "If there is one thing that bridges the gap between ages, races, and religions it is music, and I am proud to be a part of the team that brings the best music on the planet to your radio."
