Report: Netflix Considering Free Streaming Service

According to Bloomberg, Netflix is considering launching a free streaming service.

Cord Cutters News reports there's not many details right now, but it seems Netflix wants to copy Pluto TV, Tubi, Crackle, Local Now, and more. Building off of Netflix’s new ad-supported plan by offering a collection of its older programs and 3rd party content for free with ads to grow its ad revenue.

Netflix is not alone it has been reported that Warner Bros. Discovery will also be launching a free ad-supported service called WBTV.

As inflation grows, a growing number of cord cutters are turning to free services to cut back on costs. Ad-supported services, once seen as an afterthought, have suddenly become a hot item in Hollywood. As content owners look for ways to recover lost revenue ads are now an attractive way to do just that.

Netflix likely hopes to use a free streaming service to attract subscribers to the paid Netflix plan. Pluto TV has been very successful not only at getting ad revenue but also in promoting Paramount+. Often older seasons of hit shows are offered free to get you hooked, only to make you pay to see the new seasons.
