Increased Monetization of Podcasting Set Transform Mobile Audio

When it comes to the current state of podcasting, the number 35,000,000 is proving to be significant. According to Edison Research, it’s the number of people who listen to podcasts each week. And according to ZenithOptimedia, it’s also the amount of advertising revenue that will be generated by podcasts this year.

“A decade after Apple added podcasts to iTunes (July 2005) the release of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with the upcoming independent measurement by Nielsen should help propel the industry towards $100,000,000 in annual ad revenue in the years to come,” said Eva Vigh, a Download on Podcasting researcher at Texas A&M.

According to Ben Haase with the Download on Podcasting research team, “As we looked across the podcasting landscape, it was immediately clear that monetization was a paramount issue. While there are multiple ways for podcasts to generate revenue, advertising has the best opportunity to rapidly grow and help mature this market.”
