R.I.P.: Chicago, Greenville Broadcaster Fred Sanders

Fred Sanders
Fred Sanders died Tuesday in Greenville.SC.

Sanders hosted the Fred Sanders Trucker Show on WMAQ 670 AM in Chicago from 1975 to 1988. He was known as “The Truckers Friend”.

Sanders covered the ring steel haulers’ shut-downs in the mid 1970’s. “We wanted to be a business source for truckers. We were big on news,” says Sanders.

Bill Hennes says, “As PD for WMAQ, I had the pleasure of working with Fred. He not only captivated all the truckers throughout the Midwest and more, but he really was ‘The Truckers Friend’. He also was the promo voice of the station for our contests and promotions”.

After WMAQ, Sanders went on to form the successful Interstate Truckers Network show that was broadcast out of the WGN/Chicago studios.

According to allaboutcountry.com, up until recently he was the creative director for Entercom in Greenville, SC.
