Westwood One Champions Creative Sound

  • Listeners will Vote for Most Creative Commercials of Super Bowl 50
Westwood One presents its third annual Super Bowl Sound Awards for Excellence in Audio Creativity, a consumer-driven contest that celebrates brand advertisers and audio creative.

More and more advertisers are maximizing their ad spends and strategically using sound to break through the clutter and effectively identify their brand. Westwood One -- through its programming, experiential events, and digital assets — champions the power of sound by showcasing the best radio commercials within the biggest sporting event of the year—the Super Bowl. Westwood One is the exclusive national radio partner of the NFL and will broadcast national play-by-play coverage of Super Bowl 50 from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on Sunday, February 7, 2016.

The Super Bowl Sound Awards for Excellence in Audio Creativity will feature national commercials airing on the hundreds of radio stations airing Westwood One’s Super Bowl 50 broadcast, as well as on SiriusXM Radio, the TuneIn Radio App, through NFL Game Pass -- which is available on NFL.com -- the NFL Mobile from Verizon app, and on the American Forces Radio Network.

An array of online, on-air, and social media promotion will encourage listeners to vote for their favorite Super Bowl commercial. (#soundawards)  Voting starts today, Wednesday, February 3, at 12:00 am ET at www.thesoundawards.com and runs through 12:00 pm on Monday, February 8.  The winner will be announced on Tuesday, February 9, 2016.

“As we celebrate the golden Anniversary of the Super Bowl, Super Bowl 50, we also look forward to celebrating excellence in audio creative,“ said Brandon Berman, SVP Sports Sales & Marketing for Westwood One. “The Super Bowl Sound Awards were created to encourage brands and their agencies to create specialized creative that breaks through our national broadcast coverage of the Super Bowl. Last year, more than 28 million fans engaged via on-air, digital, and social platforms and we can’t wait to hear what our partners have in store this year.”

Last year’s Sound Award winner, Poo-Pourri, earned the top spot with a clever football themed play-by-play spot. The first Super Bowl Sound Awards winner was Motel 6.

Super Bowl Sunday on Westwood One will kick off with the network’s pregame coverage, which launches at 2 pm ET with Super Bowl Preview and Super Bowl Insider. Live coverage begins with Super Sunday at 4 pm ET. The game broadcast begins at 5 pm ET.
