R.I.P.: Longtime NW Indiana Broadcaster Tom Higgins

Tom Higgins, a longtime Northwest Indiana broadcaster and newsman known for his wry sense of humor and quick wit, has died from a three year bout with cancer..

He was 82-years-of-age, according to nwitimes.com.

He landed his first job at a radio station in LaPorte after graduating from Indiana University. He then joined WWCA in Gary, where he hosted the morning show. He also worked at WWJY, WLTH, WJOY and WAKE over the years.

Higgins later served as news director/anchor at WYIN-TV, where he hosted the Tom Higgins Show. He interviewed region newsmakers and celebrities such as Karl Malden, Nanette Fabray and Jean Shepherd.
