Milwaukee Radio: WJMR-FM Drops Tom Joyner

Tom Joyner
WJMR 98.3 FM has dropped the "Tom Joyner Morning Show" for the second time in three years — and, for the second time in three years, replaced the nationally syndicated weekday program with a show hosted by station stalwart Andrea Williams.

WJMR, which carries an urban oldies format branding as Today's R&B and Old School, informed fans of the switch on its Facebook page July 3.

In response to questions about the decision, Tyrene Jackson, brand manager for WJMR at parent company Saga Communications, said in an email  to the Milwaukee Sentinel Wednesday that it was a business decision.

"We understand that he will be missed by some. The show, however, has seen declining performance in ratings over the past year, and we realized it was time to head in a new direction — one that we feel our audience will respond very positively to," Jackson wrote.

Williams' show, called "More Music Mornings," will be "a live, local, music-intensive morning show," Jackson said.

WJMR dropped Joyner's show in February 2012, replacing it with a show hosted by Williams, before bringing it back in May 2013.
Tom's Take: 2015 has not be kind to Tom Joyner his brother died a few weeks ago and he's recentyl divorced.
