Fort Wayne Radio: Adams Group Closes On 7 Stations

Adams Radio Group completed its purchase Monday of seven Fort Wayne radio signalsm according to news-sentinel.com.

One major change will be moving WXKE 103.9-FM Rock 104, to 96.3-FM, said Ron Stone, Adams Radio president and CEO. The 96.3-FM signal has been broadcasting as pop music as Wild WNHT.

WXKE will be running announcements about the signal switch during the next 10 days to alert listeners to tune in to 96.3-FM, Stone said.

Beginning Tuesday, Adams Radio also will debut a Fox Sports format on WGL, 1250-AM, Stone said. The station has been broadcasting oldies music simultaneously with WGL, 102.9-FM.

The company also plans enhancements to improve improve the sound of pop music WJFX, 107.9-FM, and country music WBTU, 93.3-FM, Stone said.

In another big change related to Adams Radio's purchases, local Catholic station Redeemer Radio began broadcasting Monday morning on what had been '90s pop music station Rewind WHPP, 106.3-FM.

Redeemer Radio will continue broadcasting simultaneously on its original signal, WLYV, 1450-AM, through June, Executive Director Dave Stevens said. That signal then will transfer to Adams Radio in a station swap.

Adams Radio, which is based in Lakeville, Minn., announced in late February it had reached agreements to buy local radio stations owned by the Summit City Radio and Oasis Radio groups. Adams Radio agreed to pay $2.9 million for the Summit Radio stations and $3.5 million for the Oasis Radio stations.

The purchases include WXKE, WNHT, WGL AM and FM, WJFX, WBTU and WHPP.

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules, however, limit one company to owning a maximum of seven radio signals in the same market, with no more than four of those stations being either AM or FM.

So Adams Radio agreed to trade WHPP to Redeemer Radio for its WLYV-AM signal. The company also will give WGL, 102.9-FM, to Calvary Radio Network of Valparaiso in return for Calvary's Fort Wayne lower-power translator signal at 103.3-FM.
