Providence Radio: Helen Glover OUT At WHJJ

Helen Glover
Helen Glover, morning talk-show host on CCM+E’s N/T WHJJ 920AM has been let go following her show Tuesday.

According to providencejournal.com, Glover said her replacement will be local talk radio veteran Ron St. Pierre, who was laid off by rival WPRO-AM in February.

WHJJ executives confirmed Glover's departure but declined to comment on St. Pierre.

Glover, a Portsmouth resident who was a 2002 finalist on the reality show "Survivor," was approaching her eighth anniversary on the air.

St. Pierre, a member of the Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame, has worked at both WHJJ and WPRO, on the air and off. Most recently he was a co-host and executive producer of The Buddy Cianci Show on WPRO.

  1. Bad move I have tried listening to Ron but he is far from interesting. Sad day when you let Helen go. I will not be listening to HJJ in the early morning, Imus here I come. Management should listen to the public on what we want to hear. Not the people in the mayor's office.

  2. I too miss Helen. Trying to get through the morning listening to Ron is torture. His issues are weak, and no vitality or energy like Helen had. This guy is just plain slow and boring! I'm going elsewhere as well.....

  3. Helen Glover was the reason I listened to your show in the morning. She was not afraid to say what was on her mind, and I found her to be very informative. You have made a terrible mistake in letting her go. Helen's replacement is very wishy-washy and boring, and we won't be listening to him. Whoever made this call should be fired and your company has shown how far removed you are from your listening audience.

  4. This Ron guy is so safe and middle of the road. Boring! What a waste of time listening to him. This guy shoild do traffic reports at most. Helen was much more interesting. I like Jon DiPetro better. He isn't afraid to challenge authority and isn't politically correct. Come on get someone with some balls.

  5. I like Ron St.Pierre he is very professional, more than competent at running a station as he has shown in the past and a skilled moderator. He FAILS AS A REPLACEMNT FOR MRS, GLOVER! She is a unique personality and had already won five awards for the best talk show and was on her way to winning number six! 920 WHJJ has lost many loyal listeners. 920 WHJJ now has eldery women telling Ron that they like him much better than the one that was on before. He diplomatically cut her off saying that he didn't want to go there. This where 920 WHJJ has gone, they will need to explain to their sponsors that the listening base they had is gone. The sponsors will wonder why sales have dropped off. It is simple, people who are elderly won't be interested in the same products and services as those who are commuting to work. How many contracts would one expect a certain water filter company to install in eldrly housing units? Or siding on a particular unit in elderly housing? Good Luck Clear Channel! JAD should just about explain it!

  6. Very bad move WHJJ. I gave Ron a shot...not even close to Glover's show. You just lost me as a morning listener.

  8. Helen was the only reason I listened to WHJJ. Ron is very boring. Who ever made the decision to let her go should be fired. Bye WHJJ...

  9. Ron is boring, I won't be listening to WHJJ any longer. Best to you Helen Glover.

  11. what happened to helen glover in the mornings? this new show is not worth listening too. no more early morning radio for me.

  12. Removing Helen and replacing her with Ron was a bad move on the part of WHJJ management. Her program is the only AM radio program that I listen to. There is never a dull moment and she tells it like it is, and that is what the listeners want. Sorry that I will be listening to other stations in the future

  13. I MISS HELEN! BRING HER BACK! RON IS BORING

  14. I agree this fellow is boring. The show is very bland. It lacks substance I am looking at other radio stations to listen to/

  15. if HJJ made this change in order to compete with PRO it was a great move. Now both stations are so vanilla, I can't listen to either one. Gene Vallacenti is a little more interesting than Ron, but he won't say anything to jeapordize his real job. Ron seams like a nice guy, but it's like listening to Mr. rogers neighborhood. Sooooo boring. The real winner is Cat country because after 9 years of talk radio, I went back to music in the morning.

  16. Bring Helen Glover back. I truely miss listening to her in the mornings. She was a great host that kept my interest. Her replacement, finds me turning off the morning radio show. She is the best!

  17. Helen was the only voice worth listening to so eaely in the morning. Considering what we've been left with, I rather listen to Coast to Coast AM for local issues. Buh-Bye HJJ.

  18. I thought Helen was ill and Ron was filling in. Makes no sense.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Helen has both spine and common sense...management at whjj must not value those things anymore...All of us still do and always will = droves of listeners lost, you spineless fools.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I miss Helen, went back to listening to oldies on Sirius.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Love Helen! Used to hate when Ron filled in for Buddy, so needless to say, won't be listening to him on HJJ either!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Advice to HJJ your decision to remove Helen is well, for lack of a better term stupid. Do yourself a favor in Janruary and get rid of Hannity at 3pm. Talk about repetitive and replace him with Savage who will move to that time slot

  23. HJJ, I agree with every other post on this site. Ron is so boring I cannot listen. Removing Helen was a terrible move. I, however, will not be just moving to another Providence music station, I now need to go to the Boston market to listen to a morning show. Goodbye Helen We all love you!

  24. She was the BEST you had! So disgusting.

  25. I couldn't believe my ears when I tuned in recently after being away on leave only to find that Helen was not on the air. I thought I had the wrong station. Listening to Ron is like eating lettuce compared to eating a gourmet meal!!! I would like to know the real reason she was let go. Maybe she was canned because she told the TRUTH! Ron is boring and presents the same old crap that is getting this nation into trouble. I think the station needs to rethink its ideaology. Maybe the muslims have infiltrated WHJJ --you can be sure there is a hidden agenda here. I will never tune in during Helen Glover's time slot again. Ron needs to go ---bring Helen back for the good of RI and the nation.

  26. You just lost another listener in the morning! Ron cannot hold a candle to Helen. The station made a big mistake --bring Helen back please. Ron is totally boring and adds nothing to the political dialogue.. At least Helen voiced the facts and represented a huge faction of Rhode Islanders who want to hear something other than the usual propaganda and deception and distortion put out by most media in our nation.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The only reason I tuned to 920 in the morning was because of Helen Glover. Internet streaming in the morning, Here I am!

    ReplyDelete
  28. WHJJ, I don't understand WHY you let Helen Glover go!! Really bad move. Ron seems like a nice guy but I can't listen to him for more than 5 minutes. Could listen to Helen all day long! Best wishes to Helen! This is WHJJ's great loss!

    ReplyDelete
  29. HJJ is a joke. Helen was the only reason I listen to the station. Liberals can't stand conservatives speaking the truth!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I agree. Ron is dull. I switched to Blaze Radio. Only listen to Rush on WHJJ but frankly, I can listen to him anywhere so I don't imagine I'll be listening to WHJJ much longer.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have not listened to HJJ since the departure of Helen. Thanks to iHeart Radio I can hear Rush and Levin on other stations. Wade...

  32. I tried to be fair to both Ron and WHJJ and listened to the show for three months before passing on my opinion. Sadly I couldn't last the full ninety days; I just find Helen's talent and style far more appealing. Helen's show was wonderfully fresh and prescient, qualities that no longer exist. Like a 1979 Buick, Ron has seen better days and honestly his shows are boring. I'm really not interested in obscure references from the 1950's, 60's and 70's as I'm a younger (30) listener and I have no idea what he's talking about. I must assume that WHJJ isn't interested in its younger listener demographic any longer. Like the person above, I just listen to another station that carries a host I like.

    ReplyDelete
  33. They're not interested in an older Conservative demographic either! I'm glad to see that so many people miss Helen! Well, everyone but the crooked politicians, that is!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Even after all this time, i still can't believe that someone thought that having Ron take Helen's spot was a good move. I didn't always agree with Helen, but she certainly knew how to keep one's interest. I never listen to WHJJ anymore. Ron seems like a nice person, but he should be on late at night because, honestly, the man is a human sleeping pill.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Although Ron is clearly a competent journalist, he is no Helen Glover. The passionate presentation of the days issues and listener participation made for a morning drive spent thinking about how to improve our state. In contrast, it's now another news discussion with the occasional golocal guest spot. It's just not as stirring. I hope Helen lands another spot on the dial soon!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ron is BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! No engagement with the audience, no more educating listeners about the issues, the station panders to the status quo, no wonder Helen is out. You lost me as a listener.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Meant to leave the station my message much earlier. But here it is in the new year of 2014. Very bad decision to replace Helen with Ron. Helen was not only one of the most informative talk show hosts in the marketplace, bu she was the voice of the people and was not afraid to speak her mind particularly about the dysfunction of RI government and politics. You station folks simply don't get it. But ratings will shortly show how bad your decision was. Very bad business and PR decision on your part. And all my best to Helen in 2014. She deserves to be syndicated in multiple national markets. That's how talented she is!! Add me to your long list of former listeners.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anyone know where I can go to see what I'm assuming will be the declining rating status of this station?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Bring back Helen Glover!

  40. We miss Helen as much as ever. She was a true jewel for RI I only hope RI keeps her and she comes up on another station. 920's loss will be another media's gain, Still keeping you in prayer Helen, you are courageous H & S Warwick

  42. This is Governor Chaffee. Just want to say I love the new format. Ron is so interesting and really gets my juices going. He is so exciting to listen to and is much better than that icky Helen Glover. Perhaps you should replace the man at 12 with a broom and the one at 3 with a spoon! Riviting!
