Ace & T.J. Sign Off 'Kiss' Show In Charlotte.

Morning radio hosts leave 'Kiss' 95.1 after they're unable to reach contract terms.

Ace & T.J., whose Louisiana accents and down-home banter filled the air during Charlotte's morning drive for 13 years, abruptly left WNKS-FM ("Kiss" 95.1) Friday, according to a story by Mark Washburn at charlotteobserver.com.

They were unable to reach terms with the station's owner, CBS Radio, at the end of their five-year contract.

"We have been in negotiations with them and just couldn't come to an agreement," T.J. said Friday.

"We had a good run the past 13 years and look forward to making a major announcement regarding our new morning show," said John Reynolds, operations manager for "Kiss."

Both men are under contract for the rest of the month and had expected to work through next week, but were told by CBS management after Friday's show that the run had ended.

"We don't have any ill will toward them," T.J. said. "That was a great 13 years of our lives."

Their show is syndicated to 12 other stations and they will broadcast it from studio space leased from Clear Channel Radio off Billy Graham Parkway. Three of their affiliates are owned by Clear Channel. Their show is also streamed live on www.acetj.com.

Midday host Kelly Meyers will move to the "Kiss" morning show for the short term beginning Monday, Roberts said. She will be joined by Ace & T.J. sidekicks Yankee Pete Herrick and Guenn Peterson while the station looks for a new morning show.

Losing Ace & T.J. means that two CBS Radio stations in Charlotte are without a permanent morning show. Sister station WKQC-FM ("K" 104.7) has been seeking a morning personality since the departure of Jo Jo Morales in December.

Ace & T.J. consistently did well over the years in radio ratings in the highly competitive morning environment.

They were among leaders in the key 18-to-34 age demographic, though they have been getting pressure in recent ratings periods from "Woody and Wilcox" on rival WEND-FM ("End" 106.5).

  1. I am so mad that CBS management let Ace & TJ go. They were such a breath of fresh air to my mornings. Charlotte radio will truly suck and Kiss 95.1 has just lost a loyal listnener.

  3. Unreal, I was wondering what the heck happened when I could find the show. I'm pretty pissed bout it, but what can you do? What's more interesting is that I'm curious if the whole thing was over the obvious.... MONEY...I just wonder if our buddies Ace and TJ didn't want a nice chunk of cash for their contract renewal.. And CBS said NO! Would be nice to know the truth... As Dr. Phil says... I dont care how ya fry it... There's always two sides to the pancake.

  4. I am so glad those guys are off the air. The show sucked & was full of long pauses because they couldn't think of things to say to each other. Hopefully there will be a better show to take their place.

  5. If Ace & TJ wanted more money, so long! I'm OK if you're never on Charlotte radio again. If CBS was trying to cut pay, way to go Ace TJ & CBS bring them back! There's pure greed on one side and it eventually trickles down to listeners pockets.

  8. I liked them in the beginning for a while. I'm not sure if I was getting too mature to enjoy them anymore or if they really were going down hill. I appreciate the monies they raised over the years for our community and others. The station number on my dial has been replaced. The music is not what I enjoy about the staion anymore either.

  10. I absolutely can't believe Ace and Tj are not going to be on my radio in the mornings anymore. I'm 40 years old and have listened to them since they started the Ace and Tj show. They will truly be missed and I LOVED THEIR SHOW!!! They were hilarious. They made my mornings. Please let me know where they go so I can start listening to them again. Kiss 95.1 you guys made a huge mistake. No one could ever replace them. Your loss and mine.

  12. My teen daughters listen to 95.1. I never listened unless we compromised on the radio stations but with that being said I was use to hearing Ace n Tj. I wish them well & hope where ever they go they are happy. I found out from some advertisement on tv for the new morning hosts. Sparked my interest. Last time I listened was when TJ was talking about his divorce. That really surprised me because it seemed like yesterday that I heard him talk about the 1st born. I wish them well and wish the new hosts well too! I've hope people will give them a chance. Everyone has to start somewhere. Good luck , newbies! It will be hard cause they have a following but do your best n be funny. They'll get use to u.
